Are you a people person and enjoy working with the public?

The Morristown & Morris Township Library is seeking a friendly, customer service-oriented person to join our creative and dedicated staff as the Head of Reference and Adult Services.  The person in this position manages three full-time and six part-time staff who aid our patrons through outreach efforts and public programming, reference and technology help and fiction reader’s advisor services.

Do you enjoy working with the latest technology? 

Our Reference and Adult Services Department provides ongoing computer classes both online and in person as well as one-on-one assistance.  The Department is responsible for editing much of the Library’s website, posting to social media accounts and sending out regular eBlasts to our patrons.  The Head of Reference and Adult Services administers the Library’s patron print management system and mobile printing options and works with the Library’s Technology Specialist on a Technology Plan for the Library.  The person in this position helps in following current trends in library technology and evaluates and selects new technologies of value to the Library.

The Head of Reference and Adult Services oversees all collection development for eBooks, fiction and non-fiction books as well as streaming and reference database options.  The Library has a great collection of about 250,000 volumes that also includes strong holdings of ESL materials, Spanish and Russian language collections as well as a museum pass collection and tablet lending collection.  The Library has strong readership in popular fiction and the person in this position develops and maintains the Library’s fiction collection with the Reader’s Advisors.

What is the Library looking for in a candidate?

In addition to having a Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science and a background in the methods, practices and operations involved in a public library Reference and Adult Services department, the ideal candidate will be committed to customer service, have creative ideas and dedication to community outreach, robust collection development skills and strong leadership ability, problem solving and management skills.  Candidates should have a minimum of five years’ experience in the Reference or Adult Services Department of a public library and two years of management experience. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

What are the perks for working at the Library?

This is a full-time position, 35 hours per week that includes some evenings and weekends.      

The salary is above the NJLA minimum for a Senior Librarian, but commensurate with relevant management experience.  The position also includes pension, health and vacation benefits and optional dental and 403b plans.
