Part-Time Adult/Children’s Shelver Position Available

Are you a people person and enjoy working with the public?

The Morristown & Morris Township Library is seeking a friendly, customer service-oriented person to join our creative and dedicated staff as an Adult shelver that aids the Circulation and Children’s Departments.  The person in this position shelves collection materials but occasionally helps patrons at our Children’s Room desk with checking out Library materials, answering questions, answering the telephone, and other tasks.

Would you like a job that has you working independently in a quiet setting?

The main focus of this position is to sort and shelve returned materials both in the Children’s Department, fiction, and as needed, in non-fiction and other areas of the Library.  Although there is some interaction with the public, the primary duty is collection maintenance.  The person in this position will also assist with shifting projects or de-accessioning of collections and will work in tandem with the Children’s Department staff, Fiction Readers Advisors and Circulation staff.  Self-starters with the ability to work independently and follow through on projects will thrive in this position.

Have you ever wanted to work in a vibrant and historic downtown area?

Our Library is located in the heart of historic Morristown near many cultural and historical attractions and a wide array of dining and nightlife.  As a result, the Library receives many visitors, and we have active participation with our residents and local businesses, both in person and virtually.

What is the Library looking for in a candidate?

The ideal candidate will have great customer service experience, can work with a variety of software (MS Office Suite, Google Suite, etc.) and web browsers.  Candidates will need a high school diploma, but some college coursework is desirable.  The candidate will do some moving of collection materials and must be able to push book carts and lift up to ten pounds.  Fluency in Spanish is a plus as is knowledge of the working of libraries.  The Library is busy!  We are looking for someone who enjoys staying active and learning new things.

What are the perks for working at the Library?

This is a part-time position, 9 hours per week during the evenings with the opportunity to work additional hours when needed.  The wage is $14.25/hr. and the position includes some paid holidays and sick time.

The Library strives to honor the broadest range of identities and diverse social and historical experiences expressed in our communities, and are an organization of information professionals dedicated to empowering others to access, interpret, and create.  We do this by intentionally developing a vibrant collection of print and electronic resources and virtual and in-person programming that reflects and celebrates the diversity of Morristown and Morris Township.  EOE
