Job Ad, Children’s Program and Outreach Coordinator (Spanish-preferred)
Are you a people person and enjoy working with the public?
The Morristown & Morris Township Library is seeking a friendly, customer service-oriented person to join our creative and dedicated staff as our Children’s Program and Outreach Coordinator. The person in this position runs our bookmobile program for children: driving the bookmobile to community stops, circulating material from the bookmobile collection and conducting story times or activities with children. The person in this position orders and processes new bookmobile collection material, visits schools to sign up children with library cards, does occasional special school events and participates in area events such as Halloween Trunk or Treating and the Morris County St. Patrick’s Day Parade. There is also opportunity to work with children in the Library, as this position provides help and staffing in the Children’s Room, including checking in/out materials, shelving materials and working with the Department staff on crafts and programming. The person in this position also assists the Assistant Director in planning and implementing the seasonal route schedules, planning and implementing bookmobile activities and planning and scheduling vehicle service and maintenance.
Are you creative and have good ideas?
New ideas are always welcome in the Library and this position has lots of opportunity for creativity with program creation, making bookmobile events and visits fun, art and craft creation and more. Previous staff have developed storywalks in public parks, have worked with our ‘Little Free Libraries’ in Morristown and Morris Township, have decorated the bookmobile with seasonal themes, or have created in-person or take-home crafts for children. We like a person who can work independently, but also work as a part of a great team here at the Library.
Have you ever wanted to work in a vibrant and historic downtown area?
Our Library is located in the heart of historic Morristown near many cultural and historical attractions and a wide array of dining and nightlife. As a result, the Library receives many visitors, and has active participation with our residents and local businesses, both in person and virtually.
What is the Library looking for in a candidate?
The ideal candidate will have great customer service experience, will be bilingual in Spanish and English, can work with a variety of software (MS Office Suite, Google Suite, etc.) and web browsers. Candidates will need a high school diploma, but some college coursework is desirable. Past experience working with children and working in a library is preferred, but a valid state driver’s license is required. The candidate will do some shelving and moving of collection materials and must be able to push book carts and lift up to ten pounds. The Library itself is busy as is our bookmobile program! Thus, we are looking for someone who enjoys staying active, likes working with children and learning new things. Being comfortable driving an oversized vehicle is also a must.
What are the perks for working at the Library?
This is a part-time position, 28 hours per week that includes only minimal evening or weekend
shifts.
The wage is $18.25/hr. and the position includes a pension, vacation, some paid holidays,
personal and sick time.
