The Hunterdon County Library (HCL) is seeking an energetic team-oriented candidate with a strong public service commitment to join the HCL team and provide leadership in the organization in the areas of Young Adult services and STEM programming. This successful applicant will help design and coordinate a brand new makerspace/training lab at our headquarters library.
The Hunterdon County Library System consists of two regional libraries, one small satellite library, a mobile bookmobile and ongoing support to seven affiliated libraries within the County of Hunterdon. RESPONSIBILITIES (MAY INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO):
Conducts regular community needs assessments to identify young adult needs in order to created tailored services and programs to address identified needs.
Provides prompt, courteous, and direct assistance to all patrons with basic information regarding use of library materials, equipment, and services.
Ensures the library’s collections include relevant print and digital resources aimed at the specific interests and needs of the teens, and those interested in STEM subjects in the county.
Curates content, including digital resources and special collections, for and with young adult patrons, based on young adult needs and interests.
Adopts a connected learning approach to presenting programs, classes, and events for and with teens so that they educate, inform and inspire.
Plans, implements, and evaluates library programs and services which fulfill the diverse educational, recreational, and personal needs of local young adults.
Instructs young adults and caregivers in information gathering, research skills and digital literacy skills.
Leverages community experts, coaches, and mentors for services and programs in order to meet young adult need and interests
Adopts a community engagement mindset and develops and maintains effective relationships with schools, community groups, agencies and nonprofits that target youth and provide STEM learning opportunities and resources in order to plan and deliver programs and services that meet local needs and interests.
Takes a leadership role in developing, implementing and evaluating the library’s overall Young Adult and STEM programs, spaces and services.
Attends and participates in professional library conferences, seminars, and network committees; reads professional literature; attends and participates in staff meeting discussions.
Other duties as assigned.
One year library experience. Preference for experience with young adults and STEM programming
ALA Accredited Master’s degree in Library or Information Sciences and possess or be able to obtain a New Jersey Professional Library Certificate.
Applicant must comply with the “NJ First Act.”
Librarian 2 title requires a MLS from an ALA or NJ College Masters program in Library Science that has be deemed acceptable by the Thomas Edison State College. Librarian 2 additionally requires one year of professional librarian experience.
Appointee may be required to possess a valid driver’s license – initial appointment provisional pending Civil Service procedure; 35 hours/week, including some nights & weekends.

Starting Salary: $53,653
